For optimum health, the very least your Aussie should get is a super premium kibble, preferably one made from human grade ingredients. Foods our dogs have done very well on are Innova, California Natural, Solid Gold, and Canidae (all available better pet stores or Petfood Direct). Many Aussies do not thrive on low protein/low fat or corn based foods. We supplement kibble with at least an equal amount of fresh foods, including raw chicken necks (great for the teeth), turkey necks, oxtails, raw or cooked vegetables, fruit, yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs, canned mackerel, salmon, or sardines (good for skin health but not for breath), liver, peanut butter, herbs and garlic, and a variety of supplements including vit. C, vit. E, and Prozyme. Our Aussies love to help with salad preparation, and eagerly wait for any dropped bits of vegetables. This sort of diet produces healthy, energetic dogs with good skin and coats.
